"It's not an easy thing, loving a Morelli."
The closest I ever wanted to get to him was several rows away in English class. We’d never spoken, but of course I heard the stories about his family. I know they’re dangerous. I know he’sdangerous. Vince never had a reason to notice me, anyway—until I inadvertently witnessed his first mob hit.
His family doesn’t believe in leaving witnesses alive, but Vince seems different. He knows the best thing he can do for me is stay away, but something keeps drawing us together. Despite knowing the risks of getting mixed up with him, I can’t resist. Only problem is, Vince is a package deal—you don’t get him without getting swept up in his family’s dark games.
Now entangled with a notorious Chicago crime family, will my life ever be mine again?
**Obligatory trigger warning: While not wholly dark, this is a mafia romance with elements of DARK ROMANCE. There are no knights in shining armor to be found here.
Sensitive content not recommended for those under 18, or those who loathe the dark romance genre. **
This is a continuing story series. The story continues and evolves in each book until you get to the end.
I love Mafia for the angst and boy did I get it with this book.
My first book my Sam Mariano and she so cleverly finished this book where I am so tempted to jump straight into the next one, There is no cliffhanger as such but you don't get a hea with a bow on top either. You are left wondering what will happen next within this Morelli crime family and the characters.
Mia as the title suggests witnesses a crime across from her home and is caught spying by Vince who is the instigator of that crime but she runs back to her house.
Both Vince and Mia are in the same school and because Vince is a part of a mafia as soon as you are of age and family age and you are able to work for the family you do with no questions asked. Vince hates the life he was born into and he's a good guy but bad guy by default.
Vince tries to scare Mia but she convinces Vince she won't tell about what she saw. They become friends and then more than friends and Vince tries to keep her a secret because if his cousin who is the head of the family because if he finds out then connects the dots about how they met she will be killed.
Mateo, however, does find out and instead of killing Mia she is requested to move into the family home with Vince so Mateo can keep an eye on her.
I was confused over the mixed reviews for this book but the sticking point in this plot comes when Mateo is also attracted to Mai. Mateo is manipulative, dangerous and is hated and feared by all his family members who all live in the same huge mansion. Mateo plays games against Vince and Mia becomes a pawn in his games.
Is there cheating? depends on how you look at it like I said Mateo is manipulative and a mafia boss, Mia isn't exactly wooed. You will either hate her from a certain point in the plot or accept it for what it is. Me personally I loved the angst.
Good mafia romance I will definitely read more from this author.
