IT SEEMED LIKE A GOOD IDEA AT THE TIME
By: Kylie Scott
Releasing AUGUST 7th.
"Addictive like all Kylie Scott books, you'll swoon, laugh, ache, put your life on hold, and compulsively read until the wee hours of the night—only to reread the whole thing the next morning. Perfection!" - Katy Evans, New York Times bestselling author Returning home for her father’s wedding was never going to be easy for Adele. If being sent away at eighteen hadn’t been bad enough, the mess she left behind when she made a pass at her dad’s business partner sure was. Fifteen years older than her, Pete had been her crush for as long as she could remember. But she’d misread the situation—confusing friendliness for undying love. Awkward. Add her father to the misunderstanding, and Pete was left with a broken nose and a business on the edge of ruin.
The man had to be just as glad as everyone else when she left town. Seven years later, things are different. Adele is no longer a kid, but a fully grown adult more than capable of getting through the wedding and being polite. But all it takes is seeing him again to bring back those old feelings. Sometimes first loves are the truest.

It was meant to be a soft kiss. A chaste one, even.
The minute my lips touched his, however, everything changed. Callused hands grabbed the sides of my face and my mouth opened on a gasp. His tongue swept inside, taking me over. Holy hell. Shoes and purse hit the floor, forgotten. Nothing about this kiss was slow or easy. The man devoured me. Every ounce of emotion poured into that kiss, all of the anger and frustration between us. His tongue was teasing and tasting, driving me wild. Then he drew back to suck and nip at my bottom lip. One hand slid around the back of my neck, the other over my hip to grab at my ass. His hold was firm, a little rough even. He treated my body like it belonged to him and I wasn’t gentle either.
Apparently experience mattered. Because all I could do was try and keep up.
I held on tight to his open shirt, straining against him, trying to get closer. I’d have crawled inside the man if I could. Turned out that under certain circumstances, the taste of scotch worked for me in a big way. Against my hip, his cock hardened, digging into me. And oh my God, I’d done that to him. Me. How amazing! Meanwhile, my body felt liquid, core aching and empty. I needed him inside of me and it seemed like I’d already been waiting forever.
“Fuck,” he muttered, breath hot against my ear.
I fumbled at the remaining buttons on his shirt. My damn fingers didn’t seem to be working. Easier to just push the whole thing upward. Luckily, the man decided to help, tearing the shirt off over his head. More skin was good. And he was so hot and smooth, a thrill to the touch. The solid flesh of his pecs and the flat plane of his stomach.
He tore at the zipper on the back of my dress, dragging fabric down over my shoulders. A growl came from the back of his throat, a noise of frustration, impatience. I’m reasonably certain I heard the silk rip. I didn’t care. His hands and mouth seemed to cover every bit of skin revealed, touching and tasting me everywhere. The dress got stuck on my hips. Out of the way enough for now.
He didn’t even bother undoing my bra, simply peeling down one of the lace cups to free my flesh. My breast filled his hot palm as it took the weight. Fingers plumped me, his thumb flicking over my hard nipple. The sting of pain followed by the heat of his kiss made my head spin and my body ache. There was no room for thought as he fed me deep, wet kisses. Slowly, he took us to the floor. No time for anything else. Just the urgent need to have him inside me.
The hardness of the polished wood was cool against my back. My legs were spread, his body between them. And with his broad chest above me, his weight taken on one arm, he was all I could see. I swear even the insides of my thighs were wet, I was so ready. It would have been embarrassing with anybody else. But this man, he had to know, he had to understand. It had always been him.
“Pete, I need—”
“I know,” he said, voice harsh and low.
I really like this book but it wasn't without its frustrations.
I wouldn't call this a taboo romance, yes Peter is older but other than that there's nothing taboo about Adele's love for him, their friendship grew over the years and they were best friends.
An odd relationship, considering he was Adele,s dad's employee and basically baby sat her when her dad was busy but Adele had a serious crush from the age of 16 that grew to love and Pete was just enjoying her company, treated her like a sister, he even took her on his dates, the man was blind.
Pete had a serious denial problem where he could never let Adele go, loved her company but at the same time carried on being a manwhore. Don't get me wrong he cared for her spent all his spare time with her he just didn't "see her"
At 18 Adele finally left, I mean who could blame her, she had a workaholic father and a best friend 15 years older than her who she had fallen in love with and feared he would always see her as a little girl and nothing more.
Years later and Adele returns for her father's wedding and is paired off her dads fiancee to stay in Pete's spare room who lives across from them is now her dad's business partner.
Some people never change and Pete's lack of, words and his actions frustrated me to the point of boiling and Adele, bless her tried her hardest not to fall for him again but alas it was written in the stars.
IT SEEMED LIKE A GOOD IDEA AT THE TIME had me on edge, siding with Adele, I was feeling the hurt and I actually loved the angst, I knew it would come good in the end, it always does so I enjoy these feelings I sometimes have to process along the way.
Pete will frustrate you, the guy is slow on the uptake and despite dating a lot of women never actually did discover how they tick, I suppose you don't when it's just sex. Pete had his issues, an A-hole of a father, the death of his mother and was used to his own company, so I gave him a break in the end.
Told in Adele's pov and does lead to a heartwarming but clipped hea.
I definitely wanted more after the angst I had been through with these two, more of the happy together at the end would have been nice, but I felt it ended abruptly considering. :-/

I am a hothead, a wild card, and son to a murdered man.
I crave the things I can’t have and don’t want the things I can.
Now, I’m left to pick up the pieces—stitch our family back together with a damaged thread.
This isn’t the life I envisioned. And to make matters worse, the women in our lives are testing the strength of our brotherhood.
My name is Hayden Pearson.
I am the eldest—a protective, but vindictive son.
People may think I’m too young to fill our father’s shoes, but it won’t stop me from proving them all wrong.
First came the Four Fathers. Now it's time for the Four Sons.
Nixon (Four Sons, #1) by Ker Dukey
Hayden (Four Sons, #2) by J.D. Hollyfield
Brock (Four Sons, #3) by Dani René
Camden (Four Sons, #4) by K Webster
***This series should be read in order to understand the plot.***
This series just gets more and more exciting as it goes on.
After each book, I am so anxious for the next.
The four sons are obviously four brothers and these books follow the four fathers and each story is told by one of four different authors. A lot of fours I know, but its so different I love it.
Hayden's story though feels condensed like there could have been more but chunks are missing. Some of these books are shorter stories like this one some are twenty plus chapters and I suppose they do all interlink to make in the whole one big story of the Pearson brothers but I would have liked more of the love scenes, the backstories, the history that I feel I've missed out on when the story flips back to the past briefly then returns to present giving me a taste of what could have been.
Each brother is different I have already read Nixon with his psychotic tendencies by Ker Dukey and that had my head spinning but Hayden although he's a dark, broody and dangerous character he is easier to understand.
Hayden is the oldest brother now in charge of his father's firm since his dad got his head blown off, he's angry, has a huge chip on his shoulder and is making himself mad with his paranoia and the pressures he is putting himself under to live up to his father's reputation.
Katie calms him and she's the only one that can save him from himself. Katie and Hayden met in a hospital room and they were both instantly drawn to each other. Reading between the lines they have a beautiful love story and I wish it had been expanded more.
I love angst in a book and although short this book is packed with it.
A dark and at times gritty series that is full of surprises. I recommend it by starting with The Four Fathers then going onto Four Sons.
