![]() The New York Times Bestselling author of the On Dublin Streetseries and PLAY ON returns to the world of the arts in this intense and emotional standalone romance about love, sacrifice, and surviving both. Once upon a time Skylar Finch was the lead singer of a hugely successful American pop-rock band. But fame made her miserable. When years of living a lie suddenly ended in tragedy, Skylar fell off the map. Eighteen months later she’s sleeping in a tent in a cemetery in Glasgow, making just enough money to eat by busking on the streets. She manages to avoid recognition, but not the attention of one of Glasgow’s ambitious A&R executives. Killian O’Dea works at Skyscraper Records, Scotland’s most successful record label. Raised by his uncle and owner of the label, Killian’s upbringing would have been devoid of affection entirely if it wasn’t for his loving sister. Killian is unflinchingly determined to bring the label more success than ever, and the young homeless woman who busks on Buchanan Street is going to help him do that. Her music speaks to him in a way he refuses to over-analyze. All he knows is that if it can touch his dark soul, it’ll set everyone else’s alight. Skylar makes it clear that she doesn’t want to sign with him. But when she experiences the dangerous reality of a woman sleeping rough, Skylar has no one else but Killian to turn to. An undeniable connection forms between them. But Skylar doesn’t want the career Killian is trying to forge for her, and when her past comes back to haunt her Killian will be faced with a decision that could ruin him. He must either free Skylar from his selfish machinations and destroy everything he’s ever worked for, or lose a woman who has come to mean more to him than he ever thought possible ![]() A journey of emotions, brilliantly written by Samantha Young. I love books that captivate and take you on all the ups and downs of the characters and As Dust dances is exactly that kind of book. A story of a young girl who hit stardom and fame with a rock band and her downhill spiral on a road that leads her to homelessness. The life of a rockstar and the challenges, and all its baggage, your every move watched, your decisions and choices judged and exaggerated, even your love life fabricated by fans and press, the life in the public eye gave everyone the right to an opinion and there was nothing Skylar could do about it other than feel trapped. After a series of events Skylar ran and so no-one would find her, track her finances she became homeless, with no trace of her left Skylar in the eyes of the press and fans had vanished. Even though Skylar had millions in the bank and unable to access it without alerting people of her whereabouts she became a busker to pay for her meals. A girls journey of self-discovery with past regrets, reflections on life choices and an opportunity to start again when 2 years later a life-saving opportunity presents itself in the form of Killian O'Dea who works at a record label. Killian becomes Skylar's white night in a dark time. I liked both characters, Skylar had backbone, she could stand up for herself and despite where she had been in the past was resilient on any persuasion for what she definitely didn't want in her future again. Skylar was an artist who hated the intrusion that fame brought and wasn't prepared to go there again. Killian was stubborn, persuasive, knew Skylar was in no position to turn down his offer of help when she had just hit another all time low. Despite the hate Skylar tried to show Killian for reminding her of her position, weaknesses, her vulnerability and her need to be rescued there was sizzling chemistry between them but Killian was a work focused and professional man who had a stiffness to him and often came across as cold but as the plot progressed the layers came away and he thawed. A good love story with heartwarming back stories to both characters. Set in Scotland. Additional character's include Autumn, Killians sister who also has her own book which I would also read. As Dust Dances is told in Skylar's pov, leads to a hea. Has hot moments and a captivating plot.
