![]() It started as a simple search for a landscape designer… I wanted a beautiful backyard for my new home and my neighbors suggested I look into Ward Landscaping & Design. The owner had no pictures of himself on his website, just a portfolio of nice outdoor sitting areas, pools, and vibrant gardens that I’d always dreamed of having. Of course I hired him. I expected to meet an average guy, but Mr. Marcel Ward is far from your average man. He’s handsome, and well-built, and his smile—though a rare trait—is truly infectious. He’s every woman’s dream—a handsome, older man who doesn’t mind getting down and dirty to create something beautiful all because of his passion for it. Unfortunately, that lucky woman can’t be me. Although Mr. Ward tests my limits, quickens my breath, and makes my heart skip a beat when he’s around, I’ve promised to devote myself to my husband. So why am I falling for a man I know I can’t have? Omg, the angst, I got to 87% and it was like waiting for a car crash to happen. Gabby is a new bride, a trophy wife of a wealthy young man who she has been with for two years and has only been married a few weeks. Her husband moves her away from home following the wedding, from her family and friends, buys a nice shiny new house and just keeps the shiny new objects coming and Gabby is living in wedded bliss until she hires a landscaper for her garden and that something she keeps feeling is missing, well, it turns up in the form of Marcel, a straight talking, dirty talking, hottie landscaper with a heartbreaking backstory. The author did a great job of letting you feel a connection to these characters and as the story progresses more is revealed about Gabby's husband too, so you start to sway towards the idea of Gabby being with someone she deserves. The more the story progresses she begins to listen to her old friend, to Marcel's observations about her new husband, the things she has been blinded by, like his possessiveness and his lack of respect for her and the more people who are honest with her, her blinkers begin to come away especially with Marcel saying what he see's, hes a man who really calls a spade a spade, pardon the pun and Gabby begins so see these things too. Gabby can't deny her strong attraction towards Marcel, this is a slow burn until finally the sparks fly and their chemistry is steaming hot but Gabby's husband Kyle isn't stupid, he's devious and I was cringing near the end knowing the time was coming were he would find out about their affair at some point, despite Kyle never being home, Gabby begin to change, he would notice differences in her. This author is brave, I loved reading something different, it was what it was, a bored housewife always at home on her own who becomes attracted to someone who makes her feel wanted, attractive. He is so perfect- everything I've always wanted in a man. Too bad he can never be mine. "You're everything I never knew I wanted" He shudders a breath, pressing his forehead to mine. Our eyes connect. "It's just my luck that the woman I really want is already taken by someone else." This is my first book by this author and I would definitely read more, I am certainly looking forward to the next book. THE MAN I CAN'T HAVE ends on a cliffhanger, is told in first person dual pov and is full of angst, hotness and suspense.
