From the # 1 New York Times bestselling author of Wait for Youand Be With Me, comes a richly moving story about heartbreak and guilt, second chances and, most of all, hope...
Six years ago, Jillian Lima's whole world was destroyed. The same night her childhood love Brock Mitchell broke her heart, her life was irrevocably altered by a stranger with a gun. After years spent slowly rebuilding the shattered pieces of her life, Jillian is finally ready to stop existing in a past full of pain and regret and is determined to start living. The one thing she never expected was the impossibly handsome Brock walking back into her life...
Brock can't believe that the breath-taking woman standing before him now is the little girl who used to be his shadow growing up. Unable to stay away from each other, their tentative friendship soon sparks into something more and the red-hot chemistry sizzling between them can no longer be denied.
But falling for Brock again risks more than just Jillian's heart. When the past resurfaces, and a web of lies threatens to rip them apart, the fallout could lay waste to everything they've ever cared about...
The flame may flicker but it never goes out.
I loved this story is was heartwarming, sad, funny at times, hot and captivating.
Fire in you is told In Jillian's pov, how she first met Brock when she was just 8 years old, the day her dad took Brock in, fed him and gave him a room, trained him at his academy to be a fighter with Jillian as his shadow always there for him, crushing on him, loving him until the day that all changed.
The author cleverly keeps you guessing as to what may of happened the night Jillian received scars, with flashbacks in time, the night she let go of Brock and as the story progresses you get little snippets of what it could be.
After 6 years of hiding away in a dead end job, Jillian is propositioned by her father to work at the academy with an offer she can't refuse. Jillian has reached a point in her life were she needs to experience life again after the incident other than arguing with her cat so she takes the job.
What Jillian didn’t expect was to be working with the one person she had been avoiding for years, Brock.
My only misgiving with this story was Brock.
Even knowing Jilly had loved him for years he never shared his feelings from when they were teens to redeem his A- hole ways, even when he said he wasn't with her out of guilt from what happened when they finally get together, I still wasn't convinced and that's a shame Brock was on his way to my bbf shelf, I mean hot ex fighter, tattoos, possesive ways, I was fanning myself but if only he had said words along the lines of I had always loved you but.........
or I realised I loved you years ago when.....
but that never came he only claimed to love her when he saw her again and with that admission he gave me doubt.
Anyway despite how I feel about the outcome with Brock & how I wish the story would of gone, I couldn't put this book down, I so desperately wanted to find out what had happened to Jillian, I eagerly wanted her to find happiness and I loved that she finally got a hea, not the full hea wedding bells, kids I was hoping for but a hea none the less.
I felt it lacked an epilogue not all story's need them but I felt this did. Did Brock prove himself? i'le never know.
A childhood to adulthood love story that was at times moving and contained everything I love in a contemporary romance read.
