Exciting, thrilling and full of suspense, it just lacked the romance element for me.
I read The facilitator by Tracie Podger, it was hot and I loved the characters so I immediately jumped into another of Tracie's books but although it's a great book for those who love the mystery, thrill and suspense in a book it didn't have what I love and that's romance.
Harlot is a story of a girl called Charlotte who lost her parents and was put into the care of her cousin, Damien. Damien is a small-time criminal, a dealer and Charlotte who he calls Harlot is to earn her keep by being a prostitute, Charlotte is raped and passed around his friends. * The story does not go into detail of the things Charlotte went through.
A sad and sickening life for a teenage girl until finally one day she runs.
Charlotte only makes it to the next town over in her bare feet but finds solace there, a job and a place to stay, she changes her hair and hopes Damien won't find her.
Charlotte first meets Beau when he comes to visit his Gran who is the owner of the B&B Charlotte is staying in. You could say Beau is icy towards Charlotte, he doesn't trust her he thinks she's trouble and doesn't want anything like that falling on the doorstep for his elderly gran, Beau doesn't believe Charlotte is who she says she is, he knows she has secrets because he has enough of his own.
What I thought was going to be a great romance, two people who have baggage and dark backgrounds who then begin helping one another and finding each other turned more into a mystery, suspense, action and a story with twists and turns. There are secret vigilante groups who help women from the local cult escape and FBI involvement who are on the hunt to bring down the gang leaders and then amongst it all is Charlotte's cousin Damien who eventually hunts her down.
Harlot has lots of action and it's gripping stuff for those of you who don't mind the lack of romance, it's well written and has more than enough to keep you entertained.
I finished the book satisfied but at the same time disappointed, I really had hopes for Charlotte and Beau.
