Four years after the tragic death of his brother Joe, Sonic Idols drummer Si Delaney still struggles to cope with what happened to the man whose shoes he subsequently filled.
A forced hiatus from touring unleashes feelings he's tried hard to push aside, and Si knows he needs to seek forgiveness before he can ever truly move on. Determined to make amends he sets off in search of Joe’s fiancée, Allie.
Can Allie help Si to realise he wasn’t to blame for the tragedy, or will he forever feel like an imposter in Joe’s place?
Such a sweet ending & a heartwarming story.
I was pulled into In His Place straight away the sadness of Si's brothers death, Joe was a drummer in a band set to make it big only he never made it, leaving behind a brother who idolised him, his parents and a fiancé.
Si was also a drummer but was studying at the time of his brothers death and had chosen a different path, his drumming and music was something he enjoyed but not his career choice Si left that to his brother.
Following his brothers death Si was persuaded by the band to take Joe's place and little did he know at the time he would also end up wanting to fill his brothers shoes with the woman he left behind to.
Allie had been Si's crush since he was 16 but he loved her like the sister she was going to be and hid his feelings.
Allie lost the love of her life the boy she met on holiday that turned into more than a holiday romance, Joe was her soulmate and she couldn't move on she blamed herself for not being there the night he died until Si years later visited her, guilt had eaten at both of them for not being there for Joe and each of them thought one blamed the other through unsaid words in a time of grieving that eventually got to be said.
In his Place is a heartfelt and heartwarming read, the progression to Allie and Si finally giving in to their feelings and following their hearts instead of being consumed with guilt was moving and an emotional journey.
Si isn't the typical rockstar character I've read about in other rockstar reads, I mostly prefer cocky, arrogant characters who change when they meet the one but Si is sweet from the start, yes he's a single guy so he loves the ladies but he's also a family guy with his parents, he's loving, caring, honest and you can't help but fall in love with his character and cheer him on hoping he finds love.
Told in dual pov's and leads to a hea, a perfect Sunday read, no angst, drama, or violence not as hot as I prefer but the plot didn’t fall that way to justify lots of sex in this story. This is the second book in the series but can be read as a standalone.
Lisa J Hobman writes this series set in the UK it's refreshing as a British reader to read from an author who's characters and the location is also in her home country when so many writers from other countries like the UK build the plot characters etc around the U.S. so In His Place was a pleasant change and nice reading about familiar locations and phrases.
