When the Carolina Cold Fury’s hottest young star gets blindsided by an ex with a scandalous secret, it’s game on.
“One of the best voices in contemporary romance.”--New York Times bestselling author Lauren Layne
Marek Fabritis is used to delivering blows, not receiving them. But when he gets tipped off by an anonymous email about his ex-girlfriend, the news leaves him ice cold—and it’s not because Gracen Moore is getting married to a total jerk. It’s the fact that Marek has a three-year-old daughter he never knew about. Now he’s going back home, not to play knight in shining armor but to make damn sure that no man takes what’s his. For the first time, there might be something more important than hockey.
Gracen Moore has always loved Marek. That’s why she let him go, so he could pursue a career in the NHL. And that’s why she never told him about Lilly. Only now does Gracen realize that she made an unforgivable mistake. But is that any reason for Marek to crash her wedding and make an epic scene? If the spark that still smolders between them is to be trusted, maybe. Still, Gracen’s not getting her hopes up. Because she knows better than anyone that appearances aren’t always what they seem. . . .
I love this series, Marek, not so much..
I get that you can't love every character and that is what that was for me with this book.
Unfortunately my dislike for a guy who treated a woman like a doormat repeatedly for keeping his daughter a secret spoilt my enjoyment of this book.
Gracen and Marek were high school sweethearts and each other's firsts until Marek began to make it big in the world of hockey.
Marek decided to break it off with Gracen because he wanted to, how did he say it?.... oh Yes, "experience things"
you don't need to read between the lines there much.
Gracen was left heartbroken then discovered she was pregnant and decided to raise Lilly herself.
The story begins where Gracen has been taken on her wedding day by Marek who apparently burst into the church and got her after receiving an anonymous email that he had a daughter and Gracen was getting married. I say apparently because it's either mentioned in a previous book or your supposed to guess how it went down. I haven't read the previous book and presumed they were all standalones? you either need to read the book before, the last chapter of the book before or read between the lines as to what happens at the start of this story.
I felt this part was a big part of the story but it was missing from the plot?, I even went back in my kindle thinking I started the book a few chapters in, but no, the story begins in Marek's home after he took Gracen there.
Even after doing that which you may think is romantic, it was anything but.
Marek made Gracen stay in his home with Lilly so he could get to know his daughter all the while treating Gracen like crap, worst of all she took it!!.
Gracen felt guilty for what she had done, depriving Marek of 3 years with Lilly and because of that took all Marek gave.
The icing on the cake was giving it a try for Lilly's sake?
Marek only redeemed himself in the last 5% of this book for me so 95% I was annoyed, frustrated, felt hurt for Gracen and unhappy that Lilly was the product of such fickle people.
Sawyer Bennett is a brilliant writer and I love this series like I said because I have read a few and this is the eleventh in the series but these characters and the way this plot went, I had to stew over it all before coming back to my review and my opinion didn't change.
Real life scenarios with love, hate, unforgiveness overshadowing love. Marek and Gracen had to work through all those negative emotions and feelings to reach a point where they had to then accept the love they had for each other which had been postponed, put on hold, their paths diverted through bad decisions before they came back to each other.
Told in first person dual pov. Leads to hea. Part of a series. A balanced out plot with a little hotness thrown in amongst the angst.
